Executive – Board Dynamics

Many of the clients I work with are referred to me by their CEO or board of directors. They want me to take care of their people or fix relationships that have broken down either within the C-suite or through interactions with stakeholders. Top organisations recognise the value of reviewing senior leadership dynamics. But many leave it too late. They consider these dynamics only when someone leaves and impacts the bottom line.

Many C-suite executives are struggling. We expect them to have the skills to navigate senior roles, but many don’t. They’re promoted to managerial positions because they’re good technicians and understand KPIs, yet they don’t have the interpersonal and communications skills to make this happen.

When working in the trenches and solving problems, they’re fine, but managing and leading people requires something else. They need to go beyond technical skills to develop true capability.

That journey starts within.

It starts with knowing the job you’re supposed to be doing.

Most people think moving into management is about solving everyone else’s problems. When, in fact, their primary job is to manage the emotional temperature of their team(s) and help them solve their own problems. This requires a mindset shift that goes beyond micromanagement and low levels of delegation to arrive at clarity and inspiration.

The default Command & Control model of yesterday’s old school approach to management doesn’t work anymore.

How it works

Before a coaching programme, I work with decision-makers to think through the dynamics of their issue to decide if any quantitative or qualitative leadership tools are required to benchmark.

Usually I work with leaders bi-weekly or weekly, depending on the urgency and “distance” we need to travel. I teach these core leadership qualities and skills:
